Giveaway!!

Step right up, girls and boys, for the very first Eat Drink Chic Giveaway!! I'm proud to announce that the kind and generous folk at Eckersley's have offered Eat Drink Chic readers an amazing prize to help get the DIY creative juices flowing just in time for the holiday season. This giveaway item would also make a great holiday gift for a loved one with creative flair! Continue to find out the mystery prize and to leave your comment for a chance to win!

The prize is a Speedball fabric screen-printing kit! Ideal for an introduction to screen-printing. Design and make your very own screens and print onto t-shirts, bags, cushions, tea-towels, placemats, handkerchiefs... whatever you can imagine. Take a look at this video tutorial I found on YouTube to see just how easy it is to use. This particular tutorial shows the photo-emulsion technique of creating a screen. This is not the exact Speedball Kit but it looks to have similar components and will give you the general gist.

HOW TO ENTER

To enter, simply leave a comment, at the end of this post, describing your reasons for wanting the Speedball (e.g the kind of projects you're interested in exploring) along with your name and email.  The winner will be randomly chosen from the list. In order to double your chance to win you may comment for a second time if you link to either a twitter or blog article, that you've created, directing people to this giveaway. Competition closes 10pm Tuesday 8th December (Melbourne, Australia time). Please consult this page for your corresponding local time. The winner will be announced on Thursday December 10.

INSPIRING DESIGNS

While we're on the topic of screen-printing, I've always admired the simplicity and beauty of these mini bag designs by Something's Hiding in Here (shown below). All the products in their Etsy store are so beautiful! Hopefully these will inspire some of your own creations...

Thanks so much to Eckersley's for the generous gift! Just out, their Christmas Catalogue has plenty of creative favourites- Take a look!

    What a fabulous prize!
I've always wanted to have a go at screen printing (VERY small scale, no t-shirt empires for me!) and this looks like an excellent way to start. My mum is an avid quilter and I always thought it would be cool to make some extremely short run illustrated patterns into material for her to quilt, kind of like a mother/daughter collaboration! Off to watch the tutorial and have a daydream, best of luck everyone.

  69. Catherine on Dec 2, 2009 at 8:28 PM
What an amazing coincidence! I was just looking at some gocco kits on etsy, along with some screen-printing tutorials on the website of a local artist, because I have been looking into the possibility of using screen-printing to do logo work on some of my diy projects, and to produce prints. I have tons of cool images and designs sketched out, but, at the moment, nothing more sophisticated than fabric paint from squeeze bottles as far as 'image transfer technology'. A screen-printing skit would obviously hasten the process, as well as improve the end result (:
  70. Rachel Dallaire on Dec 2, 2009 at 8:32 PM
I would totally love to screen print on some bags! Awesome giveaway!

  76. Mindy on Dec 2, 2009 at 9:35 PM
I loved screen printing when I was at school but my silk screen broke when I moved a while ago and I haven't replaced it. I'd love to use doilies as a stencil to print some fabric for making Christmas crackers!
  77. Anna on Dec 2, 2009 at 9:39 PM
Oh pretty please! I've been wanting to try my hand at screenprinting for the longest time but have never been able to commit to buying a kit. This would be perfect for making Christmas gifts for all my friends!
  78. Maria on Dec 2, 2009 at 10:01 PM
This is an amazing coincidence, i am making pillows for my friends and family for christmas, and painting them with original designs, unfortunately i do not know how to screen print, but would love to learn one day. this kit would help!
  79. Emma on Dec 2, 2009 at 10:40 PM
Um, um, um, panicky, rushing to type fast to let you know how much I'd love to screenprint.

My husband had a huge screenprinting company and I never learned. Even while I had the master of screenprinting living under the same roof. Do you know how many times I've kicked myself about it?

I came back to crafting after the business moved and would love, love, love to screenprint but my pockets are empty and I'll just dream ... until hopefully my dreams come true.

What would I do with a screenprinting set? wall art, clothes, homewares, labels, my own little fabric designs. Yikes, stop Emma you'll drive her bonkers.

My fingers are crossed and my heart is racing in anticipation. One should hang on to their dreams you know!

    Thanks for the great giveaway.

  86. Janine on Dec 3, 2009 at 12:05 AM
I make freezer paper stencil shirts for my friends all the time, and I've been wanting to graduate to screen printing for a while now. That way I could make shirts, bags, scarfs, all with the same pattern without making new stencils all the time! (Crossing my fingers!)
  87. Carolyn on Dec 3, 2009 at 12:07 AM
Whoot! What an amazing giveaway. I'd love to give fabric printing a whirl, maybe linen tea towels. Or try a length of fabric and even make something from it. I know! Too much excitment! Thank you.

  89. Zoe on Dec 3, 2009 at 12:12 AM
My little brother has just done his first year of his Communication Design degree (following in my footsteps) and his talent blows me away. He has mentioned printing his designs on t-shirts as most you buy in the shops are easily $50+ and every second person ends up wearing the same thing! My parents are flying out to the UK this weekend and leaving us alone for Christmas for the first time so it would be a great bonding and learning experience for my brother and I to do while they're away.
  90. Jaime A. on Dec 3, 2009 at 12:13 AM
Oooh! I would use this kit to screenprint my own custom wallpaper. This is an awesome product!!!

  93. Eleanor on Dec 3, 2009 at 1:24 AM

  94. SamaraL on Dec 3, 2009 at 1:26 AM
When I was little my Dad had his own screen printing gear, I used to love the smell of the paint, mixing the colours and being lucky enough to help him squeegee the paint across the screen... oh the memories!

    I am very intrigued...
  96. Joan on Dec 3, 2009 at 1:59 AM
I've done block printing on paper, but never screenprinting on fabric! I'd put this baby to good use. I'm getting married in June so I'd love to use it for favors or decor. Is that greedy? I GUESS I could make cute shirts, onesies and totes for others.
  97. Alexz on Dec 3, 2009 at 2:37 AM
I'd love to leave to screen-print so I can print my own fabric! I could make personalized Bird Trouble (my business name) pouches and what not. Oooo, that'd be fun!

  109. Nicola on Dec 3, 2009 at 5:37 AM
How funny - another Nicole right above me :)

I would love this for myself! I know it sounds greedy, but I'm about to transfer from a junior college to a university where I will be far away from my craft studio - this seems to be the perfect size for dorm room crafting when midterms get me down in the dumps! Customizable pillows, shirts and bags - even SOCKS - could be at my fingertips - and who doesn't like being crafty?

    Thanks!

i recently did a case - study of printing at school. we did a bit of screen printing, and it was really fun, and i would love to do some more screen printing.

it's a very very very nice hobby. I'm a graphic designer but my design sense is getting worse and worse day by day because im not working in the design firm. I was thinking i should really do something to boost up my creativity on designing my own character (in my blog-miss mantou) and probably have extra income by selling my character design. hope you can support me! thanks!
  112. Allison on Dec 3, 2009 at 7:40 AM
oh yes, I'd love this because; sometimes you get tired of the kid craft and just want to do something a little bit elegant

  117. Aisling on Dec 3, 2009 at 11:48 AM
Hi Crafters, First a bit about me. I'm Aisling and I'm 13, I'm probably about the only teenager for 50 miles who spends their weekends hunting through antique stores and op stores for things to upcycle. Anyhow, I would love to give screen printing a go, a rather triumphant go! I'd love to try to print book bindings, vintage prints, wallpaper (?) and just general Christmassy projects! Thanks Amy
  118. Luzanne on Dec 3, 2009 at 1:42 PM
    Hi there :)

What are the chances of my entry being pulled out of that hat!?

I've been really wanting to start with my own little craft projects to keep me busy on weekends and week nights. Work is very stressful and my boyfriend suggested that I try something to keep my mind off work. I go onto your website every day and am inspired to try new things everytime.

I really hope to win your prize, it will mean the world to me.

    Special
    Project
    Everyone
    Enjoys
    Despite
    Being
    Artistically
    Lacking....

Well that sounds like me, would love a screen print system just like everyone else here, but being a little lacking in the skills i could certainly create something fab with a system so easy!

Would also go nicely with my ice-cream buffet wedding table.... themed napkins perhaps? ;)
  121. Roxy on Dec 3, 2009 at 2:44 PM
Yes forgot an "L" could also do with some spelling skills as well.....
  122. Sam on Dec 3, 2009 at 4:10 PM
Wow, what a great giveaway! I live in Antigua and it is impossible to get craft items here so to win it would be a thrill! I could use the kit to pave the way into starting a small business here as there are no companies here offering screen printing (and I could make my 3 gorgeous boys some fantastic tees - maybe myself too!)

After this, I would use it as an additional service in our store for our clients on their invitation stationery and on all the special touches for their celebrations! So many options!

  150. Natalya on Dec 5, 2009 at 6:00 AM
Screen printing would be a HUGE step up from my current method: I design stencils on common plastic stencil crafting sheets and then spray-paint the design onto fabrics. My favourite so far is a pair of blue scrubs pants I covered with Johnny Cash faces, but the spray paint's beginning to fade!!
  151. Sally on Dec 5, 2009 at 7:26 AM

What a perfect gift this would make,
Perhaps even better than a delicious cake,
    For my dearest sister-in-law;
She would love it even more
Than anybody I have met before!

Her lovely prints of beast and bird
To some may look a little absurd,
But are really just the sweetest things
That you have ever seen with wings.

I really think that she would love
To print a lovely little dove
With the Speedball Fabric Screen-Printing Kit
So that you can blog it
On the very lovely Eat Drink Chic!
